Mount Laurel Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide and Assault By Auto

This week, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office announced that they had filed charges for Vehicular Homicide, Assault By Auto and Driving While Intoxicated against a Mount Laurel man who had been involved in an accident in January that caused the death of one of his children and serious injuries to other.
According to reports, Ossie Thomas, 27, was allegedly operating his vehicle at speeds above the posted limit while driving through Willingboro, New Jersey. Due to Mr. Thomas’ rate of speed, it is believed that he was unable to navigate a turn properly and subsequently crashed the vehicle. It is further alleged that Mr. Thomas’ children were not properly restrained int he vehicle at the time of the accident.
Originally, Mr. Thomas was released after the accident. However, after the police and prosecutor’s office conducted an investigation, a Warrant for the new charges was issued and Mr. Thomas was detained pending his appearance before the Burlington County Superior Court. The prosecutor’s office said the decision to charge Thomas with vehicular homicide was based on eyewitness accounts and the results of toxicology tests performed after the crash.
What Charges Were Filed?
Mr. Thomas is facing multiple charges, some of which carry mandatory periods of incarceration. Specifically, he is facing charges for vehicular homicide, assault by auto, causing a fatal accident while driving with a suspended license, causing bodily injury while driving with a suspended license, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated.
